The Signs and the Elements
There are many aspects which play a role in how our signs affect our personality. One attribute which categorizes the signs and helps us to understand the differences and similarities between them is the elements. Each sign corresponds to a certain element, and this element tells us attributes which that sign will have. There are 4 elements: fire, water, earth, and air. There are 3 signs which correspond which each element, and all of these signs share similar traits with one another.
The first set of of signs we will look at the fire signs, which are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. These are masculine signs which correlate with the "yang" in the yin and yang of life. These signs are said to be extroverted* and self-expressive. The fire signs are known for being dramatic, outgoing, and expressive. Fire signs are known for a high state of intuition and emotional connection which leads them in their decision making and are natural leaders. Fire signs are enthusiastic, high energy, visionary, and at times impulsive. Some negative qualities of fire signs include bossiness, selfishness, over-determination, and being short tempered.
The next set of signs we are going to look at are the water signs, including Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. These signs, opposite the fire signs, are feminine, corresponding with the "yin" in the yin and yang of life. The signs are introverted*, emotional, and imaginative. Water signs are said to be at times inconsistent, but can always be relied upon to bring artistic vision and emotion to situations. The water signs are dreamers and creators, often pursuing artistic careers or careers helping and caring for others. On the flip side, they can be impulsive and illogical. Because of their deep emotional connection they can sometimes become manipulative in work and relationships.
After the water signs it makes sense to look at the earth signs of Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. These signs are similar to the water signs in that they are feminine, correspond with the yin, and introverted*. Where these signs begin to differ is in the specifics. Earth signs are grounded and conventional. These are signs you can trust and rely on for logic and reason. These signs are sensual, stoping to enjoy the material pleasures in life, patient, and kind hearted. The negative aspects of these signs can manifest as stubbornness, materialism, or greed.
Lastly, the air signs of Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius correspond with the fire signs. They are masculine, extroverted*, and correspond with the yang in life. These signs are analytical, cerebral, and very much in their own heads. Full of ideas and curiosity, these signs work well with others and are cooperative. Unlike their closely related fire signs, it is logic and intellect over emotions and intuition for the air signs. These signs are independent, often talkative, and sociable. Negative qualities of these signs may be that they are that they are too idealistic, aloof, or unattached from the people around them.
If you know your sun, moon, and ascendent sign, look and see what elements they correspond to. How do the attributes of these signs and elements play a role in who you are and how you act?
Blessings.
*remember that this does not make someone who has this sign/element automatically an extrovert or introvert, as the sun, moon, and ascendent sign all play a role in balancing the personality.
